draw fire from local airline =

new liquor stores if Victor-
ia approves requests from
local pubs.

The Best Western Ter-
race Inn, ~ Bavarian
Inn/Backeddy Pub and the
Thornhill Neighbourhood
Pub are among several
hundred establishments
province-wide that have
applied to open stores.

A 10-year-cld moratori-
um on new cold beer and
wine stores was lifted in
the summer at the same
time the province decided
to allow the stores to sell
hard liquor.

New -applicants had
until Nov. 29, 2002 to
apply. They had to have an
existing bar licence or be
weli on their way to ac-
quiring one.

The province is now re-
viewing the applications
and will decide which
ones to approve in the
months ahead.

Terrace isn’t alone in
being the site of a number
of new applications.

In Prince Rupert,
Breakers Pub, the Crest
Motor Hotel, Highliner Inn
and Empress Inn have all
applied to develop stores.
In Kitimat, the OL’ Keg
and North, Star Inn have
‘also applied.

The liquor law reforms
introduced last August also
allaw restaurants to sell
alcohal without food and
let bars and cabarets re-
main open until 4 a.m.
with local permission.

Most local nightclubs
are applying for the ability
to remain open late — an
issue city council here is
expected to decide in the
weeks ahead.
