Remembering a favourite teacher IVERNA Lillian Stradeski (nee Lindsay) was one of the young pioneer women who ventured out to teach school in a one-room . country schoal house, Many of you have seen this beautiful lady walking almost every morning to have coffee at Tim Horton’s an Lakelse Ave. Bud sadly, the Millburn Lake one-room school house 10 miles west of Quesnel. She travelled by bus to Ques- nel, and then by horse and wagon the remaining 10. miles —a first for the city girl, The school house was equipped with the very bare necessities, like a desk for the Iverna passed away--peacefully~: on Nov. -14, 200! at Kelowna B,C, at the age of 84. Iverna lived in Penticton from 1960 to 1972, where she raised her children as a seamstress by dqay-and an ESL teacher by night. She then made the move to Terrace in 1972. The lush green mountains and forests welcomed her home and this is where she chose to live the rest of her life, Here she got a position at Cas- sie Hail Elemetnary and also taught at Kiti K’Shan Primary School. Sadly now, this wonderful lady and teacher has passed away, She was a cancer survivor but after 12 years ‘her breast. cancer returned and she travelled to Ke- lowna for a number of treatements throughout the past year. She moved to Kelowna in early September to access the excellent facilities and support. Her hope was to be able to go quickly, and Ged in his mercy granted this to her in his time, The funeral service for Iverna Lillian Stradeski (nee Lindsay) was held at | p.m. Nov. 23, 2001 at the Zion Baptist Church in Ter- race. After a graveside service at Terrace Municipal Cemetery, a tea was held at the church with everyone sharing a story. Iverna touched the lives of many people through her years as the ESL and learning assistance teacher at Cassie Halt Elementary School. Her teaching years in Terrace were some of the best years of her life. Iverna daughter Myrna Stradeski of Ter- is survived by her horse, and her son Allan Stradeski Saturday, March 14th a to attend.
