Weir worked as a winter caretaker in mining camps in the Spatsizi area for most of the 1980’s. He says this allowed him to paint throughout the year, enjoy- ing the “beautiful and unspoiled wilderness”. Weir has been a full time artist for four years, living and work- ing in Cedarvale, He paints exclusively in oils, and says influences on his work include other artists in northwest British Columbia as well as the French Post Impressionists. Weir says he concentrates his works on capturing atmospheric light effects and defining the mood and power of the northern landscape.
