24 Terrace Review — Wednesday, October 1, 1986 Toy Run draws a crowd in Terrace. Terrace -—- Motorcycles of various descriptions glided through city streets on Saturday equipped with two items in common, A driver of the two-wheeled vehicle and a toy for youngsters in the area. Motorcyclists from around the region gathered at the weigh scales at the junction of Highway 16 and 37 on the weekend to. par- ticipate in the fourth an- nual Toy Run sponsored by the Roadrunners Motorcycle Club of Ter- race. Participants joined forces around 2 p.m., then proceeded west along Highway 16 to the Sande Overpass. The riders drove across the overpass, then headed east on Greig Avenue and doubled back along Lakelse to City Hall. They cruised east down Lazelle to the final destination at the Inn of the West. Riders gathered in the foyer ‘of. the hotel and presented Captain John Harker from the Salva- tion Army with toys which will be distributed to Terrace and Kitimat children at Christmas. James Gilham, organizer of the Toy Run and president of the Road- runners Motorcycle Club, pointed out that the toys help kids who may not have a nice Christmas otherwise. The Toy Run is an op- portune time for both, motorcyclists and the Salvation Army, Gilham noted, He said that in past Toy Runs Harley David- son motorcycles have been the predominant brand and this year was no exception, ‘“We get a much higher percentage of Harley riders out for this type of thing’’, Gil- ham said, . Gord Shaben of Blue Ridge Graphics designed a souvenir T-shirt which was available to Toy Run participants to purchase. The reason the Toy Run is conducted at.the end of September, rather than a time closer to Christmas, is to ensure that reasonable riding weather still exists for motorcyclists. The Toy Run is a positive event with beneficial results for everyone involved, Gilham said.
