Re Canada Assistance Plan

At the January 4, 1993, R Council meeting Surrey Council discussed
inequities in the allocation of funding to municipalities which has resulted in
significant discrepancies and should be reviewed tc achieve:

(a) improved information to municipalities regarding the CAP program
and access opportunities; and
(b) an equitable approach to supporting community services at the local
level without EEnalizing municipalities currently receiving CAP
funding.
Surrey Council has passed a resolution that the Provincial Government be
requested to achieve the above suggestions through changes in their procedures.

A copy of that letter is enclosed for your information, as well as a copy of the
report discussed by Council.

Council further requested that copies of this letter be sent to the Greater
Vancouver Regional District, the Union of B.C. Municipalities and other
municipalities requesting support.

On behalf of Council, I urge you to write letters to the Provincial Government
supporting this position.
