THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM Sections of astro turf could be placed temporarily under bleachers and picnic tables to prevent weed growth. Comment: Will not be doing. This is a rather expensive and not necessarily permanent solution. 3. Soil cement, interlock paving blocks, concrete or asphalt pads could be poured to permanently exclude weeds. Comment: As indicated in the earlier recommendation, we are using reck dust initially. However, if this is found unsatis— factory, we will investigate the possibility of using such material as concrete, asphalt pads, etc. Dykes The responsibility of the dykes is under the jurisdiction of the Works Department. The Committee again recommends that the Public Works Committee look into the suggested methods for control. insect Pests Recommendations: 1. Leatherjacket or Crane Fly (Tipula Paludosa) Comment: Presently we are doing nothing for this problem. However, the Parks Superintendent is investigating a "new bacteria" whichis apparently new on the market. We will be investigating different possibilities for control. 2. -Spruce Aphid Comment: The use of Insecticidal Soap will be experimented with. We will also be monitoring this problem on a continuous basis. The Committee was pleased with the report: and are positive that with the action the Parks Department will be taking in regard to the recommendations, we will have improved conditions in the various areas of turf management. The results of adopting the new practices will naturally take time to show any visible changes. However, we are con-— fident that, in time, we will have a strong and good management program. 4 .
