opportunities occurring, yet the Canadian government - Strangely silent in implementing a long-promised Vancouver/Peking /Shanghai link, New Zealand having sought landing rights in ‘Vancouver and been turned down; Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, all important centres of Pacific trade and commerce which presentiy have no air connections with Canada. The policies of the Federal government regarding al] the above must be explained. Vancouver's position as a gateway to the Pacific is the reascn why the City came into being and remains a most important ‘actor underlying our region's prosperity. It is absolutely critical that the weli-being of Vancouver's economic life is not hamstrung by lack of Federal Planning and policy. The Planning Commission feels that Vancouver City Council should express its concerns to the Federal Governrent on the matter by asking for policy definitions on all the above. Lack of action, disinterest or perhaps even policies which are counter to Vancouver's interests must ret te allowed to place the Airport at the same competitive disadvantage as exists‘at the Port of Vancouver. srt y submitted, — NSGASE M9 John Mach.
