If Hitachi, Japan does agree to be Terrace’s twin, in 1987 there could be a possibility of a trade delegation going there to begin talks with Japanese investors and a variety of represen- tatives. Thunder over city TERRACE — On July 16 a thunderstorm occur- red which was responsi- ble for some mishaps. The storm had come out of nowhere after an overly sunny summer day. by Philip Musselman At the weather office George Blakey, weather office manager, reported that the storm began for- ming quite rapidly near Smithers and Houston, where it started moving westward, at about 7 p.m. The storm reached its maximum density when over Terrace and mild thunder activity began about 9:30. The brunt of the storm, or heaviest activity occur- red between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Finally at about midnight the storm had passed. Takada is the vice-president of the Japanese Sports Fishing Association and the president of their Fly Fishing Association. Takada seemed to en- joy our hospitality and gave us a firmer bond with the Japanese, said Clark. Also. in mid- August some of the sports fishermen from Japan will be visiting to get accustomed to our wilderness, Evidently the Japanese love wilderness activities and fishing, said Clark, and they are heavily into Steelhead fishing. Building activity in Terrace remains high TERRACE — Terrace building inspector Gerry Lichtenfeld reports that permits with a total value of $182,000 were issued by the municipality dur- ing June, an increase of about $3,000 over the same month last year, Northwest Community College accounted for the greatest part of that value, with a permit for $150,000 in renovations. Permits issued for the first six months of this year show a total value of $3,389,038. Although $2 million of that total is taken up by the RCMP building project, the balance remaining is still more than double the figure for the same period of 1985. - Accident On Tuesday, July 15 the Terrace RCMP at- tendea a single motor vehicle accident on Haaland Drive near the Kirkaldy subdivision. The two occupants were taken to Mills Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $10,000. RCMP are continuing their investigation.
