City Engineer SUBJECT: Purchase of Sub-Compact Vehicles ~ Building Department (Public Works Committee Meeting March 6. 1990) RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. That the tender for the purchase of three Sub-Compact Vehicies for the Building Department be awarded to Sumit Motors Limited in the ameunt of $29,882.46. That this purchase be funded as follows: a) The new vehicle for the Director of Building Permits and Inspections be funded from the 1990 Building Department Captial Account. b) The two replacement vehicles for the Building Department be funded from the Public Works Equipment Reserve Account. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: At the request of the Director of Building Permits and Inspections tenders were called for the purchase of a new Sub-Compact Vehicle which was approved earlier this year for the Building Department. Invitations for quotation was sent to 23 dealers with ll responding. A summary of the tenders received is attached. Of the tenders received only four were under the $10,000 amount approved earlier by Council. In considering these lowest tenders, the Mazda 323 Model 33RT is the only tender which can be considered as meeting the City's specifications. A review of the maintenance track record and resale value of this vehicle indicate that it is superior to the other vehicles in this class and price Tangee The purchase of this vehicle is therefore recommended. In order that some standardization of this class of vehicle can be maintained within the City's fleet, it is also recommended that the two other sub-compact vehicles in the Bullding Department which is scheduled for replacement this year be replaced by the Mazda 323.
