That's Keely Wallace, Marina Farrell, bronze medalist Nathalie Gour, gold medalist Shauna Palahicky, silver medalist Jenine Barton and Tamara Checkley. Pool records crushed at games TERRACE SWIMMERS raced like they were on fire two weekends ago at the Northern BC Winter Games. The Biluvebacks finished the games draped in medals, having broken a whopping nine pool records, some of which dated back to 1985. “lve never seen that many pool records fall be- fore,”’ says coach Mike Car- lyfe. “It was really exciting for the kids, especially when it was in their own pool.”’ In all, 14 records were broken, the majority by some of the 27 Bluebacks who swam at the games. ‘We always seem ta do well at the Northern Gaines,” says Carlyle. ‘But this was just phenomenal, Friday morning things started rolling and they never let up.”” The highlight of the games was the senior girls freestyle that saw both Marina Checkley and Julie Vander- lee break pool records. The Bluebacks won a tolal of about 70 individual medals at the games, Some of the big winners included Jenine Barton, who picked up six medals, Tristan Brown, who won gold in all six of her events, Marina Checkley, who broke three pool recards, Garth Coxfard who eamed five golds and a pool record and Thomas Demetzer who took three - golds and four silvers. Seth Downs also had a pool record and Shauna Pal- ahicky took three gold, two silver and a bronze. In the Junior A’s, Grahain Dediluke placed second in the Giant Slalom and third in the Slalom. In the Junior B’s, Jan McConnick took third in the Giant Slalom. And in the Jun- ior C’s Malt LeClere finished fifth in the Giant Slalom, John Schulmeister took second in the Slalom and Matt Beddie was 11th in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom.
