Terrace District Community Services Society formed in 1970, “It started out originally as a debt-counseling program,’’ says executive director Mike Beausolcil. Soon after a needs study was conducted and the society has been gradually adding programs ever since. ; Now the society is the north- west’s largest provider of social and health care programs, employing 116 full-time employ- ees. The socicty’s budget for this year is around $4 million. The moncy for the programs comes from the ministry of social services, the ministry of health, and the federal government. The aim is to assist people with physical or mental disabilities or people with an illness to stay in their own homes, thus delaying institutional care. : The society operates four group homes for adults and children in Terrace under its Choices pro- SOT gram for mentally handicapped people.
