A2- The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, August 10, 1994 SCI cut. SHOPPERS visiting the Skeena Mall this weekend will get a chance to look over a different kind of display. Skeena Cellulose {SCI} will have on show ils cutting plans for - ‘Tree Farm Licence 1 and Forest Licence A16835. Those plans run to the end of the century. Usually such showings, by in- dustry or government, take place in a Tented room. Explaining the choice of the mall, SCI forester Rick Brouwer said the idea was to allow as many people as possible to sce the plans and comment on them. What they will see are a series of maps outlining where old cut- blocks are and what stage reprowth is at. They will also detail which areas have already been approved for cutting under previous devel- opment plans as well as areas proposed for future harvesting and the roads that will be put in to get to that wood, Despite all efforts to simplify presentation of all that informa- tion, Brouwer admits, ‘‘the amount of detail makes it far from easy reading for people. “Hopefully people will ask questions, lots of questions.’’ ‘The maps also fail to show one other thing, he adds: the detailed analysis of factors like wildlife inventory and soil stability that went into deciding where future cutting and road building would take place. Last week’s meetings with agency personnel such as the Forest Service and Environment minisiry had also included a helicopter run to take a first hand look al some of the proposed cut- blocks. Those agencies will come back with their comments and required amendments over the next couple of months. There is also a 30 day period for the public to make their com- ments — questionnaires will be provided at the mall display for that purpose. * Brouwer emphasized copies of all public comments ate passed on fo the Forest Service, “because they’re the ones who make the decision’’. han decision is not usually a fied dil With Sonié ‘proposed’ ” , focks being approved; others’ receiving” partial approval while still others could be put on hold unti! SCT ‘addresses specific con- cerns, , . And then the process starts all over again because this type of plan is drawn up annually. YOUR COLLEGE iN oS YOU COMMUNITY f PLANNING TO MOVE?
