Kitimat Rebels placed third in the senior boys tournament at Vander- hoof on the Dec. 6 weekend. They started with a 56-53 win over Quesnel secondary, then lost 65-63 to Vanderhoof. In their last game, the Rebels beat Duchess Park of Prince George 91-74. Kitimat’s Joe Almeida was named the most valu- able player. Prince Rupert Rain- birds won the Burns Lake senior girls tournament on the same weekend. They defeated Kitimat Orcas 59.51 in the championship game. Kitimat picked up four individual awards. Issy Maranchuck was the tour- nament’s most valuable player. Karen Lance was a first all-star while Janet Gibson was a second all- star. Ann Nijjer was an honorable mention all-: star. Prince Rupert Rain- makers took sixth place at the 16-team Victoria Police tournament. Rain- makers started by beating Langley’s D.W. Poppy 67-61. Then they lost 89-57 to Oak Bay Bays. In their third game, Rainmakers outscored Oth-ranked -Salmon Arm 67-75. It was another close one in their final matchup. They knocked off Park- lands 67-64. — Mount Douglas won the tournament, beating Oak Bay 49-46 in the final.
