Besides conducting the coaching clinic, he is organizing the District Provincial Team Program, which is designed to upgrade the calibre of the various provincial teams being formed. The teams are divided into three age groups, 18-20 years, 16-18 years, and the under 16 age group. The top provincial team, called the 1978 B.C. This team was the product of five training camps and three competitions. | The result was the production of the best B.C. team since the 1975 Canada Games Team. In a recent international tournament, this squad placed seventh out of eight teams. Considering that they were up against the national teams of the U.S.A., Korea, Japan, Canada, and Australia, who they beat out for seventh spot, they did very well. Kilimat’s Bruce Smith will be coaching the under 18 provincial team this season. There are a number of steps involved in forming this team. First, an All-Star team will be formed con- sisting of the best players from Prince Rupert, east to Houston. This squad will travel to Ashcroft to compete in a tournament December 15th and 16th. Their com- petition will consist of six other regional teams, as well as Japan’s Fujiidera Technical School Team, which was one of the top four high school teams in Japan this year. 5.C,’s current Canada Games team will also be in the tournament.
