Most recent seminars, held at Nelson, Cranbrook, and Kelowna, attracted a total combined attendance of 200 representatives from the ad- jacent operations. Keen inter- est in organizing for victory next September was also in- dicated by the members’ wives in attendance as ob- servers. The strange and vascillating tac- tics of the Southern Interior employers have added fuel to the rising flame of militancy. “Buzz group” discussions proved to be a successful fea- ture of the seminars, and made them genuine member- ship forums. Summations of reports from these discussion groups provided a wide range of useful suggestions for effective membership activity during negotiations. A clearer picture emerged of methods to dovetail Regional and Lo- cal Union activities with the job organization. A pleasing feature of these seminars was the enthusias- tic reaction of the- younger as well as the older members to the presentation of the film “The Inheritance.” They ————— INTERNATIONAL assistant WEEKEND SEMINAR successful bargaining with the Interior employers, and called for preparatory and united action at the job level. He assured his audiences that the entire union stood solidly behind the Interior’s fight for parity. Demands and strategy will be finalized at the Wages and Contract Conference at Kelowna, May 12th and 13th. The president’s remarks were preceded on each occa- sion by candid reports from the job stewards and commit- teemen from each operation represented. When pieced to- gether, these reports disclose the union’s state of readiness for aggressive bargaining.
