Kirk DATE: June 24, 1992 City Administrator File: GVRD ~ Green Zone Carlos Felip Director of Planning Green Zone Planning and Development Committee - June 23, 1992 THAT Council adopt the "Aresa proposed for inclusion in the Greater Vancouver's Green Zone" shown in the attached drawing} and 9. THAT the G.V.R.D. be so informed. BACKGROUND: The G.V.R.D Board has invited Municipalities in the electoral areas to identify appropriate lands to be included in the Green Zone. The Board haa requested that theae areas be identified by June 30, 1992. Lands to be included in the Green Zone include 4 categories: Community Held lands, Ecologically Important landa, Outdoor Recreation and scenic lands and Renewable Resource lands. Green Zone; In July 1990 the G.V.R.D. Board adopted "Creating Our Future", an action program to protect Greater Vancouver's livability. Action 25 in "Creating our Future" states: Establish with Municipalities an urban containment policy that identifies Greater Vancouver's "Green Line" beyond which urban development will not be allowed and that defines the regions "Green zone”. On February 28, 1992 the G.V.R.D Board endorsed the report "Creating Greater Vancouver's Green Zone: A Framework". Municipalities are being requested to identify lands to be included within the Green Zone, and that fall within the four categories mentioned in the Background section above. Emphasis is given on a flexible approach towards the implementation of the Green Zone to achieve a long term auccesa. As examples of this flexibility, it is noted thats “EM pees wy Mea tiiee RR Ne
