Alderman Thompson stated he was pleased to note upgrading of the old road in front of the former Star Furniture building on Kingsway Avenue is underway. Alderman Thompson stated he has been trying to arrange for a meeting with The Honourable Graham Lea, Minister of Highways regarding the budget situation on the second Coquitlam River Bridge and Lougheed Highway re-construction generally, but to date has not met with success due in part to changes being made in the Cabinet; however, it is hoped a meeting can be arranged in the next short while with the Minister and possibly a Council representative of the Coquitlam Advisory Commission. Alderman Ranger requested that the question of restricting left-turns at Trenton for West-bound traffic discussed at a previous meeting in Victoria, be again pursued and Alderman Thompson agreed so to do. Alderman Laking referred to construction of a fence along Chester Street on the Dawson Construction Ltd.'s property, and drew attention to the fact that he had previously requested the firm be contacted and asked to state its intentions with respect to future use of the Chester Street site, and Mayor Campbell advised he would endeavour to contact an official of the firm shortly in that regard. Alderman Laking pointed out that the City had previously negotiated with the firm to re~locate its operation on Chester Street to property on Kingsway Avenue within a reasonable period of time, and he expressed concern that the Chester Street property is now being fenced, while that on Kingsway is apparently for sale.
