CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD _The Mail Bag Racist was not right word Dear Sir: ~ | am writing in regard to Mr Guno's letter of Feb, 26, 2003, What's with this, ] read this letter and was confused to what Mr. Guno thinks racism is. He said the RCMP was being racist to - an elderly First Nations woman. I can’t seem to find the racism in this letter. Does Mr. .Guno think that just because the RCMP stopped this el- derly First Nations person he thinks that is racist? I am Not understanding. He said that the elderly lady was hu- miliated. , ‘Idon't think humiliated is the word to use. Maybe embarrassed but who isn't when they are breaking the ~ law and get caught. I-am not saying that this lady broke — any laws but how does Mr. Guno know she didn’t, ‘ ‘Mr. Guno says quite a few times in his-article that-he “Tater heard”. Well, Mr. Guno, you are going on hearsay. He was obviously not there to hear what the RCMP had to say to this lady and was not there to know what was actually going on. _ So wha are you to judge what the RCMP did? Mr. Guno, [ think you need to lock up the word “racist” be- cause ] don’t think you have to right definition. I can't . believe some of the things Mr. Guno had to say. Why should the RCMP have to explain their actions? ‘They are doing a job they are required ta do. So every time the RCMP stop a First Nations person Mr. Guno, do - you require them to let you know what is going on so you don’t automatically assume that it is racism? What if they stop a Caucasian or anyone in the matter, should -they think it’s racist? I am also outraged by the remark you made to the Terrace merchants. You are threatening that ifthe Ter- -Tace merchants don’t watch who the RCMP stop, that «the aboriginals will no longer shop at Terrace merchants. So really, who is threatening who here? I think that was a racist remark made by Mr. Guno, Just because “aboriginals wield even more economic - power,” as you indicated, you threaten us with that. ‘What are you doing, Mr. Guno? J thought the world was "trying to stop racism. You, Mr. Guno, are not helping matters. The only racist remark made in your article, Mr. _ Guno, was coming from you. no Crystal Roberts, Terrace, B,C, >> The Terrace Standagil is now 3 . ? # “www.lerracestandard.com Chack out our site or cat) 639-7289 tar advertising Information The Terrace Boollegger siore had a very successful promotion last week of “BADD”, Bootlegger Agains!
