Bill and Sid at Branch 13 Bill: Well, Sid, did you and your wife enjoy the gala New Look opening of the Legion Nov. 5? I know we had a great time. Lots to eat, too. Sid: Oh, it was great except my wife was helping to get the food “ready so I didn’t see too much- of her. I do now, though, *cause she ate so much. That Ladies’ Auxiliary food was so “good my wife couldn’t resist the temptation. Now she’s on a . diet. and I lost 10 pounds! Bill: . Anything wrong? Sid: ” Yes, you do look a bit skinnier, Sid. You look worried, too. Well, I got this letter from my daughter who’ s at the University of B.C,, and when I read it I just about had a heart attack. Here, I’ll read it: - Dear Moni and Dad: , BY wy _ Thanks for the letter and the cookies. I hope you’re both feeling well, especially you, Dad, with your heart condition. Any more chest pains, Mom? I’m doing quite well considering everything, I met this really nice guy down at the service station on Alma. He works there, or I should say, he worked:there. They let-him go _ because they found out he only had a grade three education, I don’t think that’s fair — do you? — as long as he did the work. He had all this money and really gave me lots of treats. Wasn’t that nice of ‘him? I guess, though, it wasn’t his money. The boss at the service station was really nice about it and just fired him because Lorne had - just got out on probation. Now that Lorne hasn’t got a job, he’s moved in with me, He’s been very attentive and kind, and when he asked to borrow my Legion scholarship money I lent it to him. He said that he could double it for me but when he came home he said that the poker game was rigged. So I’ve had to quit U.B.C. and find a little job ’cause Lorne can’t because of his record. The job I get can’t be too strenuous because, Mom and Dad, I’m m pregnant. ' Anyway, Lorne can’t work full time because he’s an out-patient at V.G.H. to get treatment for his AIDS. In between his visits to the hospital, he has to report to the probation officer. Lorne told me that he shouldn't have been put in jail in the first place if only his mother had given him the money instead of her struggling and | Lorne accidently strangling her. One of these days, Mom and Dad, _T'll go back to U.B.C. but I was suspended for cheating anyway. - Others were.doing it but I was caught and I don’t think that was Jair. They said that it wasn’t just the cheating but for the teeny -amount of cocaine they found in my purse. That wasn’t fair either *cause it belonged to Lorne’s friend who is also living with us because he’s hiding from the Vancouver Police. I hope this letter doesn't shock you too much, Mom and Dad, because NONE OF IT IS TRUE! I just wanted you to see things in the right perspective so you wouldn't be so mad when I tell you that I just got 45% on my mid-term English exam. Bill: Haye @ good day, Love, "Your daughter Remember to renew your Legion membership, Sid. The deadline is January 1, 1989.
