Equipment: To make the program workable, ramps and jumps would have to be constructed, maintained and stored. (designs attached - addendum #2). ¢ The equipment would be set up on the arena floor at the start of each session, taken down and stored at the end of each session. There are five pieces of equipment. They are large, heavy and cumbersome. It wil take approximately 1/2 hour to set it up and 1/2 hour to take it down. The skateboarders have volunteered to build the equipment, however they have no funds for the materials and we have quality concerns. The City would be at nsk if the equipment was found at fault in the event of an injury. We would prefer to build the equipment in house to ensure that it is built to meet the demands of constant wear and tear caused by users and moving it on and off the arena floor. Storage: To ensure the equipment is not tampered with or used by renegade skateboarders, there must be secure storage. For the duration of the pilot project the equipment can be stored in the Zamboni stall, with minirnal inconvenience. Permanent storage ‘approximately 400 square feet), would have to be found for the long term. Long term storage options: 1) Build a storage locker at the Recreation Centre, space is available, cost $2600.00. 2) Tarp and store equipment at the City Works Yard. Although there is no initial cost to this option, there is the risk of weather/water damage. The equipment may have high repair/replacement costs attached to future use. Protective/Gear: Participants wouid be required to provide and wear helmets, knee pads and elbow pads that meet the requirements recommended by skaredcard manufacturers. Liability: As advised by Keith Gibson, Risk Manager with the Municipai Insurance Association, the nsks are minimal provided - 1) the facility is well signed i.e. skateboard at your own risk participants must wear helmets, elbow and knee pads 2) the equipment (ramps and jumps) is regularly inspected note: The equipment would be inspected weekly by a technical service worker and sessionally by the program worker. These would be documented inspections. 3) all reasonable precautions are taken.
