Eng., Engineer SUBJECT: Sanitary Sewer Extension on Harbour Street (Public Works Committee Meeting of March 8, 1988 Recommendation: That the estimated cost of $116,000 for the Harbour Sewer Installation and Water Services Renewal Project be approved as follows: a. $98,000 be funded from the 19988 Sewer Capital Budget. bs $13,000 be recovered from the adjoining property owners in the form of sanitary service connection charges. $5,000 be funded from the 1988 Water Capital Budget for the renewal of existing water services. Backqround and Comments: The extension of sanitary sewers on Harbour Street between Pitt River Road and Brand Street was & osroject approved by Council last year subsequent To a report from the City Engineer noting that several septic systems are malfunctioning in tais areas The original concept for this project was that the City assume the cost of extending the required sewer mains while the adjoining property owners pay for their individual service connections. The estimated cost for +he extension of the sewer mains witnout the benefit of a detailed construction assessment was $64,000. A detailed design has been prepared since that time. The updated cost estimate prepared recently by the Operations Manager puts the project at approximately $193,900 net of the credit of $13,000 which will be recovered from the adjoining property owners. The apparent increase in cost for the project is largely due to additional items added to the original design cancept. The current project breakdown {s summarized as follows: ‘OF
