Brown Director of Community Planning SUBJECT: Upgrading Computer Equipment RECOMMENDATION: That a sum of up to $1,200 be taken from oo, the Computer Reserve Account for upgrading computer equipment in the Planning Department. Pi ante Pee ate thee SOR ei, tne ne Re eee eee cnet ee COMMENTS: This memorandum is being submitted to request authorisation to use monies from the City's Computer:Reserve Account to upgrade the Micro Computer in the Planning Department. The changes being proposed are to Increase storage capacity of the machine and improve the keyboard by adding Separate keys for mathematical entries, i t i t i i } i } i i i H I i i These improvements are baing requested at this time to permit the Planning Department to load the complete tax roi | onto the computer at once and to better perform numerical entries. Benefit of the increased storage is that property searches that can not be carried out now could be done. For example, if @ request is made for the number and location of vacant properties having certain characteristics, it could be done where now it can not. This feature is Particularly useful for responding to requests for real estate information and tor planning studies to identify development potential. . The keyboard baing requested separates numbers from the cursor movement keys, presentiy they share the same keys. The keyboard being requested permits numbers to be entered and placed in a spreadsheet faster with a less compticated procedure, This latter point should help to eliminate some data entry errors,
