Re: West Coast Shipbuilding

This will advise that at its regular meeting held February 24th, the
Council for The Corporation of the District of North Vancouver passed
the following resolution:

WHEREAS Canada's sovereignty over its Arctic territories has been
challenged;

AND WHEREAS this challenge can only be met if Canada asserts its
sovereignty through meaningful development of the Canadian North
and the construction of appropriate ships with icebreaking

capability;

AND WHEREAS the west coast shipbuilding industry has developed a
highly competitive ability to build such ships;

AND WHEREAS the continuation and well-being of the shipbuilding
industry in North Vancouver is of enormous economic importance
not only to North Vancouver but to the whole region;

AND WHEREAS the Conservative Government promised a meaningful job
creation program in the West:

AND WHEREAS the North Vancouver shipbuilding industry now faces
virtual extinction with disastrous economic consequences unless
immediate action is taken:
