TERRACE — The
Women and Development
Group in Terrace has
found its match!

Through Match Inter-
national, based in Ottawa,
nine local women have

formed a link with women

in Peru.

The ‘match’ { is with a
group of 40 women in La
Esperanza, a shantytown
of Trujillo, Peru, involved
in an agricultural produc-
tion and popular. kitchen
project. The project ad-

dresses the problem of

malnutrition and hunger.

Funding is required. to

permit the women and
their dependents to grow

vegetables and raise small.

animals to provide food
for a popular kitchen,
which has already been set

up in the Jerusalem sector

of the shantytown, La
Esperanza.

Funds would be allo-
cated to the creation of
vegetable gardens and
training in crop produc-
tion, as well as for the ac-
quisition of rabbits and
‘“‘cyyes’’, construction of
hutches, and training. in
raising small animals. Any

" money raised locally for

" our Peru sister group is

matched on a three to one
basis by the Canadian In-
ternational Development
Agency, That i is, for every
dollar we raise in Terrace,

an agency of the federal —

government will put in
three dollars.
