6 Terrace Review — Wednesday, June 18, 1986 Peewee girls’ champs. The Thornhill Huskies beat out Smithers and Hazelton for a berth in the B.C. peewee softball championship next month. They were unbeaten In three games. Softball players compete in provincial playoffs Three Terrace minor softball teams chased Provincial playoff berths on the June 8 weekend, and two of them made it. The local Peewee representative team, the Thornhill Huskies, had no problems in taking their three-team, double knockout series. Thorn- hill opened with a 20-13 win over Smithers Calderwood reps. Then the Huskies knocked ' off Hazelton Gitanmaax reps 25-5. In game three, Smithers eliminated Hazelton 22-9, This set up another confrontation with the Huskies and the Thorn- hill girls came through with a 30-7 victory. It gave them one of eight berths in the B.C. finals at Grinrod from July 11 to 13. The Bantam girls, represented by the Ter- race Powder Blues, didn’t really have to take to the field to win their zone title. Hazelton Rochettes arrived with only a par- tial team, and couldn’t supply an opponent. So, the Blues won this best- of-three series in two straight, by 7-0 default scores. The Blues travel to Mission July 4 to 6 for the Provincial finals. The Bantam boys best- of-three series went right down to the wire with New Hazelton Breakers gaining the berth at the B.C. finals in Lumby, July 4 to 6. Breakers won the opening game 12-8 in an extra inning over the host Terrace Skeena Hotel Boys. Skeena came back with a thrill- ing 13-12 win to notch the series at one-all in game (wo. Hazelton then won the clincher by outscoring Skeena 18-16 in game three. 2 bow ge Losers to Hazelton. The Skeena Hotei Bantam boys lost out in their best-of-three Zone Softball final for a berth In the Provinclal Championships. They were beaten out by the New Hazelton Breakers.
