disallowance of these laws.

Prime Minister Diefenbaker let the deadline go by and
the laws will remain on the statute books until the Newfound-
land legislature takes them off.

Burt Urges Canadian Senate

Prebe Unemployment Problem

The Canadian Council of the United Automobile Workers of America has urged the country’s
Senate to launch a full scale inquiry into the causes and cure of the nation’s’ unemployment

problem.

George Burt, UAW Canadian director, recalled that the question had been raised in the Upper

House by Senator Ross Macdonald.

The Senate could render great service to the country by digging into this “No. 1 domestic

problem,’ Burt said.
