Re: Low-Level Military Flights in B.C.

At its meeting Of October 2, 1990, Vancouver City Council adopted
the following resolution dealing with low-level military flights
in B.C.: . oo oe .

THAT WHEREAS the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Bill
McKnight, on June 14, 1989 approved the establishment
of the military air corridor, IR 910, in British
Columbia; | _ ;

AND WHEREAS IR 910 will be used to conduct large scale
military exercises for the primary purpose of training
American bomber pilots in low-level flying; .

AND WHEREAS the Minister did not comply with the
spirit, intent and letter of the law as contained in
the Environmental Guidelines Order by failing to
adequately inform and consult the public of British
Columbia prior to Ministerial approval of the air
corridor;

AND WHEREAS the Minister has refused to refer IR 910 to
the Minister of the Environment for a comprehensive
Environmental Impact Assessment by an independent
environmental review panel; |
