THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council April 30th, 1982 FROM: Alderman D.J. Vater SUBJECT: Ban on Herbicide Spraying RECOMMENDATION: That. the ban on Herbicide Spraying on public lawns, play fields and around any playground be extended from July 20th, to December 3lst, 1982. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS Last year Council placed a ban on spraying of herbicides in the Community, as no studies have been done and one year is too soon to see the effects of not spraying I would recommend that Council extend the ban. I would also like to suggest that Council place $75,000.00 in the 1983 budget to cover costs for weed control. The City of Richmond have found that their costs in maintaining ditches is .13ยข per foot when sprays are used or $1.00 per foot without the use of spraying, on this bases Richmond Environmental Committee have recommended to their council that the sum of $248,000.00 be included in their 1983 budget. : Alderman D.J.
