HOURS OF practice are being devoted by local singers as they get ready to
sing with the Harlem Spiritual Assemble Nov. 22. That's rehearsal pianist El-
len Boston ensuring the singers thay are on key and in ththym during a ses-
sion last Thursday. The rehearsals are being conducted by Marilyn Brodie.
The ensemble performs Nov. 22 at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre as one of this
“season's Terrace Concert Society offerings, A key part to local participation

the real McCoy for pianist and vocalist
Denzal Sinclaire whose. passion for music
gripped the audience on Nov. 1 at the REM
Lee Theatre. :

Innovative guitarist and arranger Bill
Coon accompanied by: Campbell Ryga
(saxophone), Blaine Wikjord (drums) and
Andre LaChance (bass), complemented
Sinclaire’s velvety vocals.

The music was a combination of powerful
spiritual gospel and playful but passionate
jazz fused together with an underlying
theme of love, ,

It was a rare opportunity for arts
enthusiasts to. hear. the..masterful jazz

ensemble in Terrace. It was as if the old
masters themselves — Cole, Coliraine, and
the Count himself — were present on the
stage.

The evening was presented by the Terrace
Concert Society as part of this year’s sea-
son,

‘We're very happy with our line up,”
said Karen Birkedal, president of the
society. “‘Denzal was wonderful. We're
really happy he came to visit us.”

Birkedal says the REM Lee Theatre is
great venue for performers, making it easier
to line up renown arlists.
