They were recently selected to attend a camp in two months time. Local hockey stars get another shot -Terrace’s two under-17 hockey stars — Davey Jones and Jared Ewart — have learned they’ve cleared another hurdle towards berths on the Pacific West squad in the -B.C.A.H.A.’s ‘Best-Ever’ under-17 program. They’ ve. been informed they’re selected to attend. the provincial camp with 46 other players from July 30 to August 6 at Osoyoos. This road to a major national . tournament at Quebec in December began in laté March when Ewart and Jones, and nine _ other district players ‘from Vanderhoof west, were picked to attend the ‘North Team’ — camp held at Chetwynd April 7 to 9. This camp evaluated youths and formed the best 23 into ‘Team North’ to compete in the B.C. Cup tournament at Osoyoos, April 20 to 23. Five other district rep teams made up the roster. | _ Ewart, Jones, Eric Bryne of: Kitimat, Marty Seymour of _ Prince Rupert and Tom Mix of Burns Lake all made ‘the North Team. They finished in second place on a three-win, two-loss record. Late last week, Jones and Ewart received word that. from the 120 boys at the B.C. Cup, they were among 46 picked to at- tend the provincial camp, again at Osoyoos, They'll undergo rigorous: training at the camp before cut- ting down to 23 players. This 23 then combines with the best 23 from Alberta for another camp which will eventually come up with the top 23 from both prov- inces to form the ‘Pacific Region’ team. The local Minor Hockey Association helped both youths with expenses for their B,C. Cup trip, giving each $250. ” This return trip to Osoyoos is also costing a registration fee of $250 (for room and board), so the boys will be out looking for possible. sponsors to send them on the way (transportation is an extra cost for the trip to Osoyoos). .. _ Any persons or businesses in- terested in helping Davey and ‘Jared in their heavy financial’ outlay, can contact Mrs. Jones at 4711 Park Ave., phone 635-2756.
