Province of Ministry of Provincial Parliament Buildings British Columbia Secretary and Victoria : British Columbia Government Services vaY 1X4 GFFICE OF THE MINISTER February 10, 1988 Mayor Len Traboulay & Council City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, British Columbia V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor Traboulay: As you know, Premier Vander Zalm announced, on September 23, 1987, a plan to create eight development regions in the province. Shortly afterward, he assigned eight Ministers of State to look for ways to cut government red tape, find creative solutions to problems and prepare regional development strategies. As Minister of State for Mainland/Southwest, I have begun the task by systematically canvassing the entire region for public input. In this undertaking, I am very ably assisted by my two Parliamentary Secretaries, John Jansen, MLA for Chilliwack and Norman Jacobsen, MLA for Dewdney. Mr. Jacobsen has been assigned to meet with you and members of your council to discuss the objectives of our program, and ways it may be able to help the people of Port Coquitlam. I would request that you respond to Mr. Jacobsen's visit in writing at your very earliest convenience and I have enclosed a set of guidelines te assist your staff in composing your response. This will ensure a degree of consistency from community to community thus helping us put our information together in the form of recommenda- tions to Cabinet. Thank you, Mayor Traboulay, for your support. Working together, this new approach to government gives us an opportunity to achieve real and lasting benefits for the people of your community. Sincerely, eR ane TE Elwood N. Veitch Provincial Secretary and Minister of Government Services Minister of State for Mainland/Southwest Region Enclosure OT
