NOTICE OF MOTION ~ OCTOBER 4, 1982 - Whereas the Canadian people had no choice in the act of abolishing Capital Punishment; And whereas there were 3 police homicides in 1980 and S police homicides in 1981; * And whereas there were. 9 homicides of Federal Prison Guardes in 1980; - And whereas 24 common assault deaths occured in 1979 of which. 19 were female; And whereas 18 common assault deaths occured in 1980 of which. 14 were female; And whereas the Canadian people have never had a referendum on Capital Punishment ; Therefore be it resolved that the U.B.C.M. urge the F.C.M. and the Attorney General of B.C. to communicate directly with the Senate, the Commons, and those charged with the responsibility for the Administration of Justice, and insist that the Federal Government hold a National Referendum on Capital Punishment for; ‘1. The death of a Police Officer. 2. The death of a Prison Guard. 3. The death of a female or child during a common assault.
