Alderman Keryluk advised the Columbian newspaper is putting out a
new weekly paper to be published on Tuesday.

Alderman Traboulay referred to the presentation to Terry Fox of the
Companion of the Order of Canada medallion on Friday, September i9th,
1980 and expressed hi: appreciation to the staff for their work in
organizing the event.

Alderman Traboulay made reference to all-candidates meetings held
in November prior to the Municipal election and discussion ensued on the
meetings held in the past. Mayor Laking advised that this is not a
function that should have City involvement but should be carried out by
citizen groups.

Alderman Mabbett referied to the UBCM Convention and stated in his
opinion the informal discussions held with the Provincial Ministers were
a good idea.

Alderman Wright referred to the UBCM Convention and stated in his
opinion it is good to have Council input regarding che "Planning Act"
before it is put into effect and also expressed appreciation to the
Works & Utilities Superintendent regarding the repert on the conference
he had attended on the City's behalf.

Mayor Laking expressed his appreciation to the staff for their
efforts in setting up the ceremony referred to earlier by Alderman
Traboulay.

Mayor Lauking advised of the meeting regarding the revitalization of
the Downtown Core on September 24th, 1980 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council
Chambers,
