A brief discussion ensued, and Alderman Thompson pointed out that the budget had been reduced by approximately three-quarters of a million dollars; also, he stated he felt that having held the budget meetings open to the public at all times this year had been a very worthwhile experience, and that he hoped the Council would continue this practice in the future. Mayor Campbell stated he felt no other Council in the Province spends as much time on budgets as Port Coquitlam's Council. Alderman Traboulay pointed out that the City is operating on the 1971 census for the Provincial per capita grant, and Alderman Laking, in furtherance to this comment, mentioned that’the method of basing per capita grants on census figures results in a drastic loss every year to 1 ? f q q i ; g municipalities. Alderman Thompson introduced a By-law for levying a rate or rates on all taxable lands and improvements assessed on the revised assessment roll of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam for the year 1976 to provide for all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the said Corporation for the current year.
