I would like to take this opponunity te thank the Potters Guild of BC for support Ing my request to attend Paul Scott's Ce- ramics and Graphics course at Red Deer College this summer, The Potters Guild Scholarship gave me the resources | needled bo attend the course and it was well worth every dollar. As Maggi Kneer has already mentioned in a past newsleller, the counie was exceptional in many ways. Having Iwo weeks away from everyday life, an expenciced and knowledgeable instruc- tor and an eclectic group of colleagues sharing ) the studio, all created a perfect fF environ- meni for “yy CX PS ri- M 4 Mi, ‘death? our hearts Sriiyrs hia anand 2 aon a content. Thanks to the Guild Paul began by introducing a series of low tech processes that are all described in his book, Ceramics and Print, and can be utilized without a great deal of expense He covered two or three processes each day and by the end of the drawing tocoverit. Aslabofclay was then Maced over top of the ship and rolled with a braver (0 press the slab to the slip layers underneath. After awhile, when the clay was near leather hard, the slab of clay was peeled from the plaster first week, we were totally overloaded with tech- niques and ideas. Every one walched and talked together while we worked, andthe coloured drawing appears embedded in the slab. | have been ex periment- and thes helped spur us on to experiment further and share ideas, The PROCESS 1 enpoyed (ee prices wis ila Ing into a plaster slab to create a small carved image. Then the carved lines were filled wath slip coloured with powdered slain. The excess slip was scraped away with the edge of a credit card to show the crisp lines. Next the spaces of the drawing were painted in with coloured slips until ihe entire image was filled with colour.
