Skins, Charity golf ‘here this weekend _ It’s become a popular game with major pro golf stars in the United States, and local organ- izers are hoping the same thing . will happen in the Northwest on a smaller scale. It’s the ‘“‘Skins’’ game which makes its debut this Saturday at the Skeena Valley Golf Club _with pro-managers of Smithers, Prince Rupert and Terrace clubs playing an 18-hole series for fairly large sums. Smithers’ John Morgan, Prince Rupert’s Moe Hays and Terrace’s Dan Rosengren should be playing before a large follow- ing audience starting Saturday morning -at 10 o’clock as they shoot for prize money totalling $1,650. Terrace’s Dan Rosengren feels it’s going to go well. ‘‘I’m sure it’s going to work out fine,’’ he ‘told us. “I also think it will be ’ played on a different course every year.”’ We asked him about the possi- bility of a skins game for tourna- ment winners, like the four men’s or four women’s open championships at Smithers, Ter- race, Kitimat and Prince Rupert. “Well, they. couldn’t play for cash,’ he said. ‘“They can play for prizes only up to a certain value, but professionals are the only ones allowed to play for dollars.’’ Tickets are being sold at the -golf clubs and All Seasons _ Sports store, «, On Friday, Aug. 5, golfers The ‘original concept here was | considered two years ago, ‘but: it wasn't until now that organizers could get all three golf club bosses together. This year they have over 100 players and hope to raise more - than $4,000. Everyone wins a prize in this one, and there’s some big ones to shoot for. McEwan GM, a third. major sponsor of the event, has put up four vehicles as hole-in-one prizes. There’s a full-sized GMC .Pickup, an S-Series truck, a Cor- sica.and a Sprint. Geta. hole-in- one on a par-three hole and you win a vehicle. Other prizes include airline flights and golf equipment.
