14 Terrace Review — Wednesday, November 19, 1986 Dog saved | from misery TERRACE — Recently, a dog was brought into the Terrace Animal Shelter by the local Self Help Group. The dog, which is a mix of a boxer and a ridgeback, _ is only a pup and had gone through a very traumatic life. by Philip Musselman Frank Bowsher, Animal Control Officer, has made a decision that the pup deserves a better life and has started a fund to pay for an operation on its leg. The leg is either broken or dislocated, and the people at the Animal Shelter are trying to comfort the animal as much as possi- ble. ‘Despite the obvious- ly tough time the dog has Animal roams bench area TERRACE — Recently a dog has been wandering around the city, mainly around the Halliwell area. The dog has chased mail carriers and has also killed neighborhood animals in fights. The animal is what is known as a Japanese Bear Dog or an Akita. It is larger than a shepherd, it has shorter hair than a huskie, and it is reddish- brown in color. The dog is known to be dangerous and the shelter is doing all it can to capture it. Anyone with information about the animal is urged to call the Animal Shelter at 635-9372 during the day or the police during the evening. The Akita was last seen on Labelle Avenue where it had killed another dog. Volleyball continued from page 7 Hamakawa. Representatives in- dicated that the need for donations this winter will be at least as great as it was last year. The Food Bank will be open two weaks per month (the two weeks before welfare cheques are Issued), 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will be operated by volunteers from the Sacred Heart Parish, Christ Reformed Church, the Evangetical Free Church, Knox United Church, Lutheran Church, Pentecostal Church, Anglican Church, and the Salvation Army. This year to date 893 animals have been impounded with 92 released by owner, 199 released through adop- tion, and 562 destroyed. Of the destroyed animals 58 out of 66 were cats and 8 were dogs this month. Over the year 458 cats and 104 dogs have been destroyed. The figures have all increased this year with the excep- tion of the amount of animals released by the J Over 100 animals impounded owner and adoption, these figures have decreased this year, The shelter took in $527 for impoundment and board fees, $112 for licenses, and $5 for destruction fees. So far this year the shelter has received $10,023 for its services.
