The government television service said its unofficial tabulation of 1.24 million valid votes, or one-fourth of the totaleligible voters, gave the PPC 33 per cent of the 1.24 million valid votes counted and Victor Raul Haya de la Torre’s APRA 25 per cent. Leftist candidates had an- other 33 per cent of the valid vote in Sunday’selection, but this wes split among six par- tes. The leftiat show of strength waa attributed to discontent with recent in- creases in prices of bagic staples, fuel and trans- portation.
