CAMPAIGN STARTED TO BOYCOTT SEAGRAM The B.C. Federation of La- bour has announced that a full- scale publicity campaign will begin in Western Canada with- in the next week calling on trade unionists and members of the general public to boycott all Seagram’s products. Fed- eration Secretary Ray Haynes said the action will be taken in support of 180 distillery work- ers now in the eleventh week of a strike at Seagram’s New Westminster plant. Ray Haynes said: ‘‘The anti- Seagram’s campaign will initi- ally take the form of advertise- ments in several Western Can- ada daily newspapers.’ He added: ‘‘If this multi-national corporation continues its pol- icy of refusing to agree to a contract settlement in line with its competitors, the Federation is prepared to expand its publi- city campaign to other Sea- gram’s market areas such as Bastern Canada and the Wes- tern United States.” “We are determined to con- tinue our support for the em- ployees on strike at Seagram’s and will leave no stone un- turned in our efforts to assure that this corporate giant ac- cepts a fair and reasonable contract,’’ said Mr. Haynes. “Trade unions from across the province are rallying both financial and moral support for these Seagram’s employees. We know these men and wom- en are prepared to hold out as long as necessary to achieve a fair settlement. King, minister of labour, has announced the appointment of T. G. Ison, faculty of law, Queen’s University, Kings- ton, Ontario, tothe position of chairman of the Workmen’s Compensation Board, effective June 1, 1973. Mr. Ison graduated in the LL.B. degree at the University of London in 1957 (first class honours) and in the LL. M. Degree at Harvard Law School in 1959. He was called to the bar in England in 1958 and came to British Columbia in 1960 where he was also called to the bar. Mr. Ison practised law with the Vancouver firm of Lawson, Lundell, Lawson & McIntosh. In 1962 he joined the faculty of law at the University of British Columbia and in 1968 moved to Queen’s University, Ontario, where he is a pro- fessor of law. Mr. Ison is the author of a book on personal injury com- pensation and of several law review articles.
