oo oe oe | Drive approaches $15,000 mark: “By IVAN BIRCHARD Plans in Vancouver to put our $15,000 sustaining fund over the top in a big way include canvassing, socials and a city-wide publicity campaign for the Film Festival, to be held in Pender Auditorium, May 19-20-21. Vancouver competition for the Pacific Tribune Trophy finds Grandview with the most money -raised. Students have the largest percentage over their quota, but they are only one percent above Commercial Drive. South Hill, Hastings East, Norquay and Niilo Makella are all close enough to spiter, serious competition. x wk ‘North Vancouver raised its en- tire quota before the Burnaby Clubs reached their individual .quotas, but, to equalize things, the neighborhood council in Burnaby has.exceeded its quota by a higher percentage than North .Vancouver oe A Glube East End Council is away ahead ‘of the Industrial Council, but af- fairs planned by both leave the issue in doubt, especially as all clubs have an opportunity to pick up in subs and donations before May 15. -Among individual workers, Bill Hreherchuk has raised more than any club with $650 to his credit aside from club work. Some Koot- enay points, Cranbrook, Fernie, Michel and Rossland have not yet been credited with subs collected by Bill in their areas. KS wk ok Ok Bob Towle, veteran campaigner, has done a great job in press building, having raised a large sum for the Tribune and done ‘most of the work in obtaining prizes. ieee Secure Jack ‘Butler of Grandview, who raised close to $100, may well be -|}our oldest press builder, while 10 year old Jimmie McFarlan is cer- tainly the youngest to raise $25 in che drive. RatiS a@hr=. eeu or Bill has raised as much as most clubs, having over $230 and $18 in his club quota as well. KS ki Ok Rhea Dear of Hastings East is one of those who have a chance for one of the three top prizes. Ed Cinits, Percy Budd, John De- weaver and many others are well in the running for city honors. Harry Asson in Victoria has led a splendid campaign, and through- out the province Eric and Grace Anderson of Britannia, Dick Jones of Kelowna, Vic Vesterback, Al- dergrove, C. Coleman of Salmon Arm and Kay Dosen of Rossland are only a few of the enthusiastic workers who are making this drive the success it is. .One final word. We want to make our Press Builders Banquet a. bang-up affair and all Press Committees are urged to send in names of those qualified without delay. : ' Prize winners named — ; Eallowing ‘is the list of prize- _. winners at the Pacific Tribune’s dance, held at Happyland Ball- “room: on May 1.
