THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM J.E. Yip, P. Eng. DATE: December 07, 1992 Deputy City Engineer Anne T. Pynenburg Project Technician PUBLIC PARKING - LOT WEST OF SIMON FRASER HEALTH UNIT ON WILSON AVE. RECOMMENDATION: That the Public Works Committee consider the allocation of the City owned parking lot located west of the Simon Fraser Health Unit on Wilson Ave. for a 2hr. public parking designation while retaining 10 spaces for permit parking only. at a cost of approx. $400. Attached is a report dated October 20, 1992 outlining a request from the City Clerk to investigate the parking restrictions in the Simon Fraser Health Unit lot. There are presently 9 spaces rented through permit parking of $5 .00/month. These spaces should be kept to guarantee the holders a parking spot. However, the use of these permits shouid be monitored and if they are not being used then a re-evalution of the lot should be conducted. There are 5 existing signs in the lot reading “Parking By Permit Only”. Other parking in the area includes: - Wilson St. east of the Health Unit has a 6hr parking designation. - the lot behind Poco Mall is a combination of 2hr and 3hr. time limits. - the parking along Donald St. across from the Lighthouse Restaurant is 3hr. The Lighthouse currently does not rent permit spaces from the City. SOLUTIONS: NOTE: Both Options include retaining 10 stalls for permit parking only. Option | Install 2 new "“Zhr. Parking, Monday to Saturday" signs and 4 “2hr. Parking, Monday to Saturday" signs on existing poles in the Simon Fraser Health Unit lot. If the purpose of restricting parking in the downtown core is to provide parking for patrons of businesses, then a 2 hr. designation is sufficient. continued
