6.31 Slash Burning
The use of slash burning as a silviculture treatment shall be prohibited.

Slash burning is a controversial silviculture prescription. Arguments exist which at minimum place
the benefit of mass burning in doubt. Slash burning will be eliminated solely on the grounds that
atmospheric loading of carbon and smoke Is nofan option in an era when global warming and
air quality are critical issues. |

Legisiation shall be developed which regulates the impacts of mine exploration, access,
development, operation, site restoration, and monitoring. Mining will be acknowledged.

Legislation shall be developed which integrates consideration for all ievels of tourism industry
modes and activity (rubber tire, cultural, wilderness, resort destination, etc.) in the evolution of
land use sirategies at Provincial and Watershed Authority levels.

Legisiation shall be developed which affords 1) protection and enhancement of natural fish
stocks in all their habitats, 2) restoration of fish habitats damaged by human and natural intrusion,
3) equitable access fo fish harvesting by ail user groups. The continued existence of a healthy

fish population will be acknowledged as an important indicator of the ecolog cal health of
inland and coastal water habitats. '
