Brown Director of Community Planning Development Variance Permit Procedure RECOMMENDATION: That City Council revise the procedure for issuance of voluntary development permits. The change being proposed is eliminating the requirements tor written notification of Surrounding property owners about variance permit applications for industrial zoned properties. COMMENTS: This policy change for voluntary development variance permits was initiated following a request for more expeditious treatment of development variance permits. The change is supported as an interim measure, until mandatory development permits are instituted in the Mary Hill tndustrial estate. The mandatory development permits will controf the Same matters as the current voluntary permits, only with more definite criteria for approval. Oue,to the more detined nature of tne mandatory permit system, no public notification is contemplated. 1tT should be noted that the company making presentation about the length of time required for voluntary development permits, compared process approval for mandatory permits in other municipalities. Once that system is in place in the Mary Hill Industrial Estate later this year, processing time will be considerably reduced.
