Agriculture OISTRICT OFFICES 17720 ~ 57th Avenue Surrey, BC V3S 4P9 July 16, 1981 Mrs. Vera Harvey 3549 Devon Road Port Coquitlam, BC Dear Mrs, Harvey: During our telephone conversation of July 14, 1981, you express- ed an interese in rhe toxicity of triforine (Funginex) fungicide. As you will gacher from the attached information sheec, triforine shows a very: low acute oral LD50. for mammals (rats, mice). If this dosage is related to a 150 15 human, a comparable dose of product would be about 2 liters of Funginex. ~ Before this material was registered for use, it would have been tested for shore and long. term health hazzards and approved by Realth and Welfare Canada. Testing of triforine and like materials is very time consuming, and costly, but is considered necessary by Health and Welfare Canada before registration for use is granted. . AS you well know, blueberry production in the Fraser. Valley would likely be reduced to a suh~economic level, if triforine was het available for the control of Mummy berry disease. As wet soil conditions during April prohibic the use of ground operated spray rigs in most blueberry plantings, aerial spraying is the only effective applicarion method at this time. ° If I can be of any further assistance in this matter, please feel free to contact me. ‘ RPE Fruly, aX 2 “J.T.
