CONFIDENTIAL a 2. POLICING REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY TO THE MAYOR OF — PORT COQUITLAM You will note that a minor alteration in the layout of this form has taken place, with the objective being to make it more easily read. The four left hand colunns refer only to the current year's statistics and the right half deals with last year's statistics, for comparison purposes. You will also note that the statistical block showing, "Number of Juveniles Involved this Month" has been deleted. . This has been done because the figures presented were totally misleading in that they only included juveniles that were actually apprehended in relation to a particular offence. A very large portion of the unsolved offences each month are undoubtedly committed by juveniles; however, the number can only be speculated at. A major investigation is continuing into a complaint from the mother of a 9 year old girl to the effect that the child was molested and indecently assaulted by an adult babysitter. It appears to be an isolated incident. Iwo possible arson cases were investigated during the month; one of which has been concluded as an accident while the other is still being actively pursued with a possibility of criminal charges being laid, There was marked increase in B&E's in January 1980 compared to January 1979, with a total of 4] this year compared to 30 last January. There was a similar increase in wilful damage cases; 36 in January 1979 compared to 55 this January. We are stepping up our "walk through" program in retail liquor outlets, with a view to cutting down on liquor related offences, such as wilful damage complaints and minor thefts. During January, our School Curriculum Program members talked to 48 school classes at the clementary and junior high levels. Le Wf AAALY, 0 “eI. DAVIS)-Thspec tor OIC Coquitlam Detachment
