June 28th, 1976 Alderman Traboulay indicated that he felt that as Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee, students could be placed in the Mosquito Control Programme and alse working with the S.P.C.A. on an animal control education programme and suggested that further discussions be held with the City Administrator and Mr. Toporchak in this regard. Alderman Ranger requested clarification that these jobs would not normally be posted through the City and thus no Union involvement would be required and this was confirmed. Moved by Alderman Rangers: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the Chairman of the Environmental Prcection Committee be authorized to explore the hiriag of two students from the "Job Exploration by Students Programme" ro be utilized by the Simon Fraser Health Unit or the S.P.C.A. Carried. Aldermen Laking and Thompson voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Thompson stated that in view of the recent add*-ional Budget « welfare overrun,etc. the City was not in a position to expend additional funds on a programme of this nature. Alderman Laking agreed that the objectives of the programme were excellent, and had the presentation been made earlier in the year he would have supported the proposal but was unable to do so at this time due to Council's present inability to provide funds for other necessaty services such as the additional R.C.M.P. Constable and additional firemen for the City. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Unfin.Bus. re resolution re unsatisfactory access to Hastings Jr.Sec. School The City Clerk advised that the Resolution with respect to the ‘unsatisfactory access to Hastings Junior Secondary School had been deferred at the last meeting of Council and was available for further discussion at this time. Alderman Ranger enquired as to the outcome of the June 22nd meeting of the School Board and the June 25th meeting with M.L.A. George Kerster as this had been the reason for the deferral, of the subject to this time, however, no official reports of the meetings were available. Alderman Keryluk indicated that he had attended the Kereter meeting and, as nothing definite had come out of the meeting, he felt the suggested resolution was in order at this time.
