Page C2 — Terrace Standard, Wednesday, August 19, 1992 Breaking the cycle of inactivity By KATHY CORBETT. AY BY DAY, it is impressed upon us that we must look after our bodies. We are told to be more active. To walk, not drive. To participate in sports and attend fitness classes. And, of, course, the older we become, the more we are expected to do. — ~ and the less receptive we are to do it. ‘Hey! [ve worked all day. I just want lo pul my feet up. § I’m tired —I don’ thave lime!”? oa : Sorry, it doesn’t cut it. If our bodies ‘aren't continuously stimulated, they become lazy. The less’ we do the less we- want to do. Chronic fatigue and. depression are lwo. common symptoms related to inactivity. We have to stoke: the fire to raise.a flame: Energy @ creates energy. It may be an‘old cliché, but it’s very true, We must do it for ourselves: The buck must stop. We control our .own destiny. We live in a very -self-centred world. Well, self-centre it — look after your body. We are not talk- ing genetics or a disabling injury, we are talking facts. Wrap those arms around yourself, give yourself a hug, and say “Ws all right, I love you and I will lake care of you from now on.’ It's up to cach of us to nurture ourselves and give ourselves unconditional love. No more self-abuse, punishment and neglect. We are not just from the neck up, we are all of us. Without our body, we have nothing. We have to stoke the fire. to raise a flame. Energy creates energy.
