The New Skeena River
Bridge and highway ap-

‘proaches were completed

last fall, replacing the
outmoded . single lane
wooden bridge that had
served as the town’s only
road link for - several

“decades. Upgrading of the

Yellowhead Highway 16
route from Edmonton
through Terrace to Prince
Rupert is progressing
rapidly with only a widening
of the road between Terrace
and the coast yet to be
completed. An important
paving project within the
community improved many
residential streets. last

summer, and the Kalum -
Lake Road, an alternate link”

to Stewart in the north, was

paved for several miles

beyond municipal’ boun-
daries. ~

In the past year, more
than 50 private homes were
constructed, three con-
dominium developments
opened and another is under
way, 2.703 seat theatre for

‘the performing arts was

completed, the school board
moved into stunning new
premises, and the Pacific
Northern Gas Company
occupied ifs Spacious new

‘oifices.

Various additions
were completed to several
of the 14 schools in Terrace,

_and a $6.3 million extension

was begun on the 87 bed |
Mills Memorial Hospital.

The newest addition to the”
Sandman . Hotel chain
opened in late 1975 adding to
the existing Terrace and
Lakelse Hotels, and the
Kalum, K'shain, ‘Thornhill,
and other motels providing
a-total of more than 300
rooms to serve tourist and *
conventioneer alike.

An expansion of the CN
rail yard has just com-
menced, and crews have
been active ‘for months
‘replacing the old. standard
length rail with new heavier

rail in lengths up to 1,100

‘feet to’ accommodate and

more. safely handle. the
faster unit trains. Ground .
will be broken this year for
the town’s.second enclosed-

‘mall shopping centre with

K-Mart and Overwaitea as
the principal: tenants. Both
Mr. Mike's and Macdonalds
have indicated an interest in
locating in Terrace which -
now boasts 15 restaurants,.a
substantial increase from -
