Maitland, City Treasurer SUBJECT- Hyde Creek Pool DATE: May 05, 1987 RECOMMENDATION: That the City reject the offer received from School District No. 43 (SD 43) for the City to buy out SD 43's share of the Hyde Creek pool. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Attached is a letter received soma time ago from SD 43 which outlines their offer to us. We have deliberately delayed responding to their offer because our earlier offer (in April 1985) to amend the cost sharing to 65% City, 35% SD 43 has never been responded to. SD 43's pzesent offer is unacceptable and does not even warrant serious consideration in that it addresses only their concerns and change in our partnership agreement should address concerns of both partners. Their offer is: 1) We oay $ 500,000 foz their 50% of the pool, This figure is probably too high and SD 43 can only see this as a starting point. SD 43 put up $ 333,333 for their half of the pool (not the whole facility) which does not include a share of the cost of the land. 2) In addition they commit to zent from us for 5 years with our revenue being reduced from present $ 15o,857 to approximately $ 80,000. T'.Te Committee understands that during the Spring, many resicients are allergic to various pollens in the area. However, I am sure that you can appreciate that a city withouc trees, grass or flowers would be unrealistic. Nany of'ur citizens are faced with similar problems, especially those who Sic close to our parks, flower The areas, etc. is sorry that your daughter is allergic; however, we are not prepared to cut the trees down as they are part of the landscaping for Lhe west side of the arena parkinq lot.
