BIO - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, October 30, 2002 Bantams looking t TERRACE’S Bantam reps are struggling to come to- pether early in their sea- son. The 13 and 14 year olds have played four games in their inter-city league and have had to contend with three tough losses, a tie and no wins. The boys faced Kitimal in a pair of games last weekend and came out with a disappointing Fri- day night 6-3 loss and a 8- 8 tie the next day. “Kitimat played very disciplined hockey,” said assistant coach Herb Gor- iak, adding the Terrace crew needs to work on its consistency and endur- ance. That means when they get on the ice they need to play hard for a full 60 minutes. They also need a little work on their penalty kill - Kitimat capitalised on a couple of power plays in the Oct. 25 game which contributed in part to the 6-3 loss. Team captain Taylor Quinn, 14, says the team has what it takes to win, but it hasn’t played to its potential since regular season play began. “We're just not playing very good as a team right. now,” he concedes. “I think we need to play bet- ler defensive hockey and more positional.” Knoedler ranked 20th in Canada IT’S NOT bad at all for a young girl from Terrace, Blueback swimmer Al- lison Knoedler — who cele- brated her 13th birthday less than two weeks ago — is ranked 20th in Canada in the 400 metre individual medley for the 11-12 year old age group. The ranking stems from her third place finish at the provincial age group championships in July. It’s a great way to cap off her time in the 11-12 year old age group and ~ gives her boost as she moves up into a new age calegory this year. “Tt’s a really good start- ° It may be a rough start, but Quinn is quick to note that it’s still early in the season and anything could happen. He is also impres- sed with the team’s goal tending so far. “Our goalies are play- ing great,” Quinn said. The 0-3-1 record defini- tely isn’t indicative the team's capability. In its first pair of Skeena Valley League games Oct.. 19-20 in’ Smithers, the Terrace boys put in a solid effort but came out on the losing side of both games by one- goal margins, October 20’s game was a heartbreaking 9-8 loss after a back and forth game which could have gone either way.
